Hawke's Bay Weekly Football Review | 17th & 18th June


MEN’S FEDERATION LEAGUE – ROUND 10:

Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers welcomed cross town rivals Shani’s Taradale AFC to Park Island. In a tight match it was Taradale who took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a 36th minute strike from Liam Percy-Fish. The home side were able to turn things around after half-time and goals from Tom Speers and George Andrew secured Napier a hard fought 2-1 win as they secured their spot at the top of the table.

At Memorial Park Palmerston North United hosted ALH Limited Gisborne Thistle. United took the early lead thanks to a well taken Nathan Cooksley goal before Thistle equalised a minute later through Jimmy Somerton. Thistle then took the lead in the 25th minute when Campbell Hall netted however this time it was United who responded immediately with Ben Mori finishing of a swift counterattack. Joseph Craven then put United back in front just before half time to give them the advantage at the break. Thomas Bell was brought on at Half Time and made an immediate impact when he slotted home in the 47th minute to extend United’s lead. Both sides had further chances, but neither were able to convert as the match ended 4-2 to United as they continue their climb up the ladder.

 

WOMEN’S FEDERATION LEAGUE – ROUND 8:

At Massey University Kitchens by Healey Palmerston North United welcomed Excel Refrigeration Moturoa AFC. Te Aorangi Jordan and Fernanda Toscani with first half goals as the visitors went into the sheds leading 2-0.  Paris Liu pulled a goal back for United in the 59th minute to set up an exciting final quarter. However, when Toscani netted her 2nd of the match to extend Moturoa’s lead in the 72nd minute that was enough to see them hold off a determined United side and claim a well deserved 3-1 win on the road to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.   

 

HB REVIEW 

YORB Pacific Premiership 

Pak n Save Tamatea Napier Marist maintained their lead at the top of the table with a 2:0 victory over Falcon Electrical Taradale. Goals scored by Rueben Thurston Lee-Lo, and Mustafa Can. With a 7:0 victory over Duke Gloucester NCR, HNW Big Barrel Premiers climbed into second position. Goals were shared around with Satpreet Singh scoring in both the 18th and 32nd minutes of the game. They have now moved one point ahead of Falcon Electrical Taradale. Palm City Motor Inn Port Hill defeated Maycenvale United 4:0, with Shannon Laxon-Fowler scoring a hat trick.

HB Reserve League 

Match of the round saw HNW Cole Murray Reserves take a key win 2:0 over Thirsty Whale NCR Reserves. The team is now 1 point behind the leaders Burger Fuel Port Hill. Taradale AFC Reserves welcomed Rogue Hop Napier Marist Reserves to Taradale Park. Taradale took the win 5:2. Burger fuel port hill Utd Reserves played a competitive game against Giant Brewing Maycenvale Strollers. Maycenvale were the first to score, taking a 2:0 advantage into the second half. However, Port Hill came out firing in the second half scoring 3 goals and ultimately winning the game 3:2. ECR Western Rangers faced off against Westshore Beach Inn Eskview. The Western Rangers won the game 4:1 thanks to four goals by Fane Blakey-Morgan.

HB Division 2 

Completebuild Taradale Vikings played a competitive game against HNW Divas, with the Divas winning 1:0 thanks to a goal from Heith Adams in the 81st minute. Western Rangers Division 2 took on Westshore Beach Inn Eskview, Western Rangers took the win 4:0. Paddy's Bar NCR added another win after defeating HNW Arataki Honeybees 5:1.

HB Division 3 

Game of the round, Marewa United played Elite Flooring Maycenvale Vikings. Both teams have been very close for points on the table. Maycenvale got the all-important 3 points this week though with a 3:1 win away from home. Both teams are now equal 5th on the table. East Coast Tiling Western Rangers are staying in the hunt for the top spot with a 10:1 win against Hastings Hibernian Sports club Pacificas. HNW Razos faced Croplands Spray Shop Western Rangers in what was a tightly contested match, with both teams scoring in the first half. Neither side was able to break the dead lock, and the game ended in a 1:1 draw. A tight win for Napier South 5:4 over Paddy’s Bar Napier City Rovers keeps them in second place. Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Reds took on Hastings Hibernian Sports Club Hammers, the home side taking the win 3:0. Integrity1 Napier Marist hosted Burger Fuel Port Hill Utd. Napier Marist won 6:2 retaining their top spot by one point.

HB Masters 

HNW Mercenaries defeated Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Masters 7:1 in the match of the round. Mercenaries moving up the rankings from sixth to fifth. Marewa Masters took the win away from home 5:0 against Paddy’s Bar NCR Masters. After defeating Shed 2 Napier Marist by a score of 2:7, HNW Alessandro's Masters maintain their one-point lead over the competition this week. Taradale Masters took on Union Hotel Napier South going down 2:6 to the third-place side. The Flax Western Rangers Masters beat Port Hill Masters 2:0.

HB Womens Division 1 

The women's Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Blues defeated the Western Rangers 4:0 to continue their winning streak. Taradale Reserves hold on to their second-place spot this week after beating Turfrey Taradale AFC 2:7. HNW Village Insurance vs Quality Pumping Limited Port Hill United Women was postponed.

In the game of the round, Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Development took on Hastings Hibernian Paper Mulberry Women. Neither side scored in the first half making for a tightly contested 2nd half. Ultimately, the sides couldn’t be split, ending in a 2:2 draw. Happy times Taradale Childcare defeated NCR Women 4:1. HNW Loading Ramp played Burger Fuel Port Hill Women. Taking the win away from home 4:2.
