Taranaki Weekly Football Review | 12th & 13th August


MEN’S FEDERATION LEAGUE – ROUND 14 & 18:

Bayleys Palmerston North United were up against Shani’s Taradale AFC at Memorial Park. The visitors took the lead thanks to Liam Percy-Fysh in the 21st minute. Percy-Fysh then doubled the visitors lead in the 51st minute. Caleb Young reduced the deficit for the hosts when he netted in the 65th minute. Percy-Fysh completed his hattrick in the 71st minute to extend the visitors lead once again. Yay Pay Tha gave united late hope when he scored in the 88th minute however it was not to be and the visiting Taradale side held on for a 3-2 victory on the road.

ALH Limited Gisborne Thistle hosted Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers. The first half was the Ethan Spencer show as he netted four goals accompanied by an Own Goal as the visitors raced out to a 5-0 lead. Jimmy Somerton pulled a goal back for thistle just before half time. Campbell Hall netted soon after the break to give the hosts some hope of a comeback. However further goals for Rovers from Aiden Doran and Tom Speers put the result beyond any doubt as the visitors secured a comfortable 7-2 win away from home.

WOMEN’S FEDERATION LEAGUE – ROUND 14:

Excel Refrigeration Moturoa welcomed OneStaff Marist Reserves to Onuku Taipari DomainElla Johns-Stewart gave the visitors the lead when she netted in the 49th minute. Moturoa responded quickly and equalised in the 53rd minute thanks to a Chantal Williams strike. Neither side was able to find the winning goal and the match ended in a hard fought 1-1 draw.

At Memorial Park in Palmerston North, it was ATLAS NP Rangers up against Havelock North Wanderers. New Plymouth took a 3-goal lead into the break thanks to goals from Sophie MagonHolly Andrews, and Zara Erol-Watt. Havelock came out firing in the second spell and were rewarded for their efforts in the 53rd minute when their build up play resulted in an own goal. Neither side were able to trouble the scorers any further and NP Rangers held on to claim a 3-1 victory on the day.

 

Taranaki Duff Rosebowl 

Rampage Fitness FC Western took on Peggy Gordon’s NP Rangers AFC in the cup this weekend. Western opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Cameron Burnell in the 9th minute of the match. The Rangers got one back before the break thanks to Taku Warren in the 24th minute.  The Rangers then went on to extend their lead with two more goals in the second half thanks to Reuben Warburton and Niall Leggett. The Rangers took the win 3:1. 

 

Taranaki Men’s Championship – Round 18 

Cross Country Rentals NPBHS 2nd XI took a comfortable 7:0 win over Trafficr NP Rangers this weekend. Goal scorers were, Fletcher Gordon, Tyson Dellow, Matthew Hearn-Powers (2), Stirling Monk (2), and Matthew Oliver. Peringa United Championship took on Millwards Roofing FC Western. Peringa took the lead with netting 4 goals in the first half thanks too, Chad Jones, Flynn Whittaker (2), and Shanil Singh. Jospeh Crowe got one back for Western to take the score 4:1 at the break. Milan Clarke scored a brace of goals early in the second half to extend Peringa’s lead to 6:1. Western netted two more goals thanks to Joseph Crowe and Matthew Sanger. However, this wasn’t enough as Peringa took the win 6: 3. Cunningham Construction Kaitake FC took a comfortable 9:2 win over Novotel Woodleigh FC this weekend. Kaitake Goal scorers were Aaron Taylor (5), Allan Tom, and James Bevington (3). Woodleigh's goal scorers were Conor Williams-Watson, and Harry Fielding.  

 

Taranaki Men’s Division 1 – Round 18 

Smith & Son’s Eltham AFC took on Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers AFC this weekend. The Rangers opened the scoring in the first half with three goals from Luke Snellgrove (2), and James Grieve. Eltham managed to find the net and score two goals thanks to Ezekiel Oliver and Caleb Jackson. However, the Rangers got two more to extend their lead thanks to Ali John and Benjamin Viss. Taking the win 5:2. Wonder Minerals Kaponga SC took a comfortable 7:2 win against Elca Stainless Inglewood AFC. Goal scorers for Kaponga were Daniel Shepherd, Ashley Reader-Noakes (2), Alejandro Eschmann, Lautaro Àlvarez, David Siciliano, Kingsley Young. The Inglewood Goal scorers were Des Murray and Spencer Harkness-Gower. KP Joinery Waitara SC took on Shining Peak NP Rangers AFC Oddbodz. Rangers took the win 3:0. Goal scorers were Shaun Sullivan, Joshua Barrett, and Ross Lewis. 

 

Taranaki Men’s Division 3 – Bottom 4 

Orchard Contracting Ltd Hawera FC took on Stratford AFC Reserves this weekend. Stratford opened the scoring with a goal in the 28th minute thanks to Jamie Pretty. Hawera got one back in the 44th minute thanks to Steven Yelseth before the break. Hawera went on to score two more goals in the second half thanks to Steven Yelseth completing his brace in the 50th minute and Luke Dromgool in the 60th. Hawera took the win 3:1.
