Central Football are delighted to announce they have been awarded the Sport New Zealand Governance Mark, being the first Federation of New Zealand Football to achieve this recognition. The Mark was formally awarded on Thursday 14 March 2024 by Sport New Zealand Chief Executive Raelene Castle and received by Central Football Board members Rebecca Scott (Deputy Chair) and Andrew Moore and Special Projects Manager John McGifford.
The Sport New Zealand Governance Mark is an independently assessed quality assurance standard which assesses the organisation's alignment with the Governance Framework for play, sport and recreation in New Zealand. The requirements to achieve the Mark include having processes in place for Board member recruitment, clarity on roles, well-structured meetings, a culture of accountability, a considered method for strategy development and an ongoing regime for monitoring efficacy of that strategy.
Central Football Chair Jamie Hall said, “we are thrilled that the organisation has been able to work through the process to gain this status. The Mark acknowledges we have a well-functioning Board operating in a best practise manner with robust governance policies and a clear strategy to have a positive impact on our game and our communities. My thanks go to the Board for their diligence throughout this workpiece, to management for all the background work required and to Sport New Zealand – not only for recognising Central Football in this way but also for all the support provided in attaining the Mark”.
Sport New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Raelene Castle says Central Football should be proud of their achievement. “We’d like to congratulate Central Football on becoming the first Federation of New Zealand Football to be awarded the Governance Mark. The process for being awarded the Mark is a rigorous one, and this achievement is a reflection of Central Football’s hard work and strong leadership in our sector.”
NZ Football Chief Executive Officer Andrew Pragnell commented “it’s fantastic to see the work of Central Football recognised through the awarding of Governance Mark. The governance of sport in New Zealand is a vitally important area of focus for everyone involved in sport to ensure the sports system is prepared for the future and continues to adapt to a rapidly changing environment”.
