Whanganui Results Roundup | 18th - 21st April

Men’s Federation Cup

In the game of the round, we had TSH Moturoa AFC hosting Wanganui City FC 1sts at Onuku Taipari Domain. On paper this was sure to be a close encounter and the game didn't disappoint. Both teams were locked together until the 76th minute when Wanganui City took the lead thanks to Levi Hoekstra. With time running out Moturoa never gave up and in the 88th minute managed to equalise late thanks to a goal by Dean Wilson. Going into extra time both teams created opportunities as the game was end to end. However, in the 23rd minute of extra time Quadri Agbelekale stepped up to put Wanganui City ahead again. Moturoa would not give up and replied almost instantly in the 24th minute of extra time thanks to Logan Hislop. Despite both teams' efforts the game would remain 2-2 and go to penalties. Unfortunately, a winner must be decided and Moturoa would prevail to win 3-1 in penalties. A cracking game of cup football between two evenly matched sides.

YORB Western Premiership

In this week’s game of the round, we had Chillmax Takaro AFC Jokers taking on Youm PN Marist Men’s Reserves at Skoglund Park. Takaro were looking to continue their perfect start while Marist were looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat with three points. The beginning was a very cagey affair with both sides not giving an inch. It wasn't until the 39th minute that Marist scored thanks to Sam Hickmott. They would take an important 2 goal lead into halftime thanks to a Charles Parker goal in the 44th minute. Takaro came out in the second half determined to get back into the game. They say a two nil scoreline is dangerous and Takaro proved this with goals in the 53rd and 63rd minutes thanks to Dylan Welch and Scott Burney. With the game looking like heading for a draw, up stepped Michael Whitemore as he continued his hot goal scoring form. Goals in the 80th and 84th minutes gave Takaro a 4-2 win and the all-important three points. Takaro remains hot on the heels of PNU at the top while Marist sits midtable in 6th place.
