
Tungsten Legal Duchess Cup and Plate
Sunday saw the conclusion of the women’s season with the two Grand Finals at Yarrow Stadium. In the first match for the Duchess Plate Worley Woodleigh took on Liquid Beanz Peringa and it was won by Peringa 5-0 lead by captain Hannah Andrews who finished with a brace. In the Duchess Cup EZE Wash NP Rangers battled against TSH Moturoa with Moturoa getting the 6-2 win after a hat-trick to Fernanda Toscani and a double to Kate Phipps.
Yorb Taranaki Men’s Premiership
NPBHS 1st XI have moved to the top of the table after just sneaking passed NP Rangers 1-0 thanks to a winner from Ashdin Tuuta. A double by Daniel White has seen Rough Habits Hawera get a 3-3 draw at home against Rampage Fitness FC Western which drops FC Western down to second on the table. NPBHS 1st XI and FC Western now play each other in Round 18 with the winner to claim the Premiership title for 2020 but a draw would open it up to Flooring Design Moturoa if they can win next week by four goals. Moturoa comes off a 0-3 away win over Kitchen Draw Inglewood and plays Peringa United next weekend who themselves had a solid 4-0 win against Smith & Sons Eltham with Colin Campbell netting twice. In the final match it was a nine goal epic with Proglaze Waitara winning 3-6 away to Spectrum Decorating Woodleigh, Tom Brett scoring a triple and Brock Wilson a double for Waitara.
Taranaki Men’s Championship
With one round to go nothing has changed at the top of the Championship table with Cunningham Construction Kaitake still holding a one point lead after they won away 1-4 to Woodleigh. TreeHouse NP Rangers are still pushing Kaitake all the way after they also won away 1-2 over NPBHS 2nd XI, Jonathan Martin bagging a brace. Alex Best scored a 88th minute winner for Millwards Roofing FC Western to win 0-1 against Mark Frost Electrical Hawera and Jones Quarry Moturoa also got an away win 0-2 over Inglewood. In the final match of the round Bounceback Physio Peringa won 4-2 when they hosted Eltham with David Goodall picking up two goals.
Taranaki Nimmos Cup
In was Quarter Final action over the weekend in the Nimmos Cup. Brad Hickling scored five goals in a 9-1 win for Hutchins Dick Peringa Pirates over Inglewood to see them into the Semi Finals. They’ll host FDMC Senior Team in the first Semi Final after the school side won 1-4 away to FC Western thanks to a Josh Goble hat-trick. Paul Hamlin Build Eltham will host the second Semi Final after they defeated Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers 4-1. Eltham’s opponent is NP Rangers Oddbodz who needed extra time to get past Wonder Minerals Kaponga 2-5 after Kaponga’s Daniel Gut scored the equaliser in the 88th minute but Oddbodz pushed on thanks to a Joshua Barrett brace.
Lotto Central Federation League
The top of the table clash between Peggy Gordons NP Rangers and GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic ended in a 0-0 stalemate with both sides cautious not to give the other side the advantage throughout. Athletic still have the two point upper hand going into the last weekend of the season but have a difficult home match against third place Watsons PN Marist who are coming off the Bye. Rangers have the tough travel across the island to face fourth place Building King Havelock North Wanderers who won the Hawke’s Bay derby on the weekend 2-0 against Alexander Electric Napier Marist. A fantastic ending to the title race is install in Round 18 and these two matches will be intense encounters. The other matches in Round 17 saw an eight goal thriller when Isles Construction Massey University drew 4-4 with Breakers Red Sox. Joseph Freeman scored a hat-trick for Massey who had a three nil lead at one stage but were lucky to get a late draw after Red Sox scored four unanswered goals and nearly took all three points. The final game had North End getting back to winning ways after five straight losses when they defeated Levin 1-3 down at Donnelly Park.
